It was the nightmare before Christmas.
An Australian woman experienced the worst fear of all arachnophobes after finding a giant spider with eggs lurking inside her gingerbread wrapper.
“Isn’t that what I asked for?” he joked with Katie Gompertz, of Sydney, in a post on Monday on Facebook detailing the horrific discovery.
The attached photos show the huge hunter spider grabbing a bag of eggs as it lay in the middle of the ribbons it was weaving inside the box.
According to the Facebook post, Gompertz had ordered a “ready-made gingerbread house” from local grocery chain Woolworths because he believed it would be easier than building one.
“Only in Australia, only in 2020,” he lamented, adding, “I don’t really say it often, but: why me?”
Fortunately, social media was quick to commit to their situation.
“Are you SERIOUS?” wrote a horrified commentator about the squatting stuffed animal.
“That’s canceling Christmas,” another said.
Another shared a gif of Kevin McCallister’s “Home Alone” running around his house in fear.
A Facebook comedian asked, “Did they charge more for the site resident?”
Huntsman spiders, known for their speed and ability to hunt, can grow nearly 1 foot long, generally living in Australia, Africa and other temperate climates, according to a 2003 study.
Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time a hunting spider has infiltrated someone else’s house.
Last December, a woman opened a box of pygmy possums to find a whole colony of furry thugs scattering inside.
