JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A woman died Sunday after her neighbor’s gun accidentally fired at Westside, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Police said they were called around 1:30 p.m. to Jeb Stuart Lane, next to Wesconnett Boulevard, and learned a woman was shot in the head. Police said he died at the scene.

According to the sheriff’s office, a neighbor told police that while cleaning the firearm inside his residence, a patrol was accidentally unloaded.

The sheriff’s office said the neighbor is cooperating with police.

According to the sheriff’s office, there are between 40 and 50 meters between the neighbor’s house and the woman’s house, which at the time was in the front room.

Police said a small child was also inside the home at the time and reported the incident to the Jacksonville fire and rescue department. Cayenne said the boy thought the incident was thunder and lightning storms in the area.
