The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, explained yesterday that the excess of vaccines against Covid-19 contracted by the Dominican government was due to the lack of compliance of the pharmaceutical companies.
He said the “over-contracting” vaccines is a practice that has been incurred by almost every country in the world to deal with the global pandemic that started in the People’s Republic of China in December 2019.
During an interview on the television program Matinal, broadcast by Telemicro Media (channel 5), Abinader justified the purchase of more vaccines to curb virus cases.
“We had to assure at one point that the AstraZeneca, we made a contract, but we were wrong. The AstraZeneca began to arrive a first game for the COVAX system in January and did not arrive, then had to start arriving at the March and recently arrived in June and we had to over-hire as all countries did, ”the president said in response to questions from his interviewers.
Make sure there are enough vaccines
The governor stated that his duty was to “have enough vaccines” and recalled that Covid-19 is a disease with which he will have to live from now on.
“What I had to make sure of was that there were vaccines here. But something else too, it has been determined that we have to live with the Covid-19.
It’s not that Covid-19 will disappear, it’s going to decrease, but this disease will stay, “Abinader said during the interview.
The head of state said that “what was initially criticized to us, the third vaccine, and every time something universal is being done,” the ruler added.
