President Luis Abinader held a meeting with the Secretary General of the World Tourism Organization (WTO), Zurab Pololikashvili, at the headquarters of this body, to coordinate policies focused on continuing to recover the tourism sector in the Dominican Republic.
At the meeting, the Dominican head of state thanked the support received by the UNWTO to restore tourism in our country. He praised the UNWTO’s commitment to accompanying other countries to design the best policies and bring the confidence needed to recover tourism.
“Our real goal is the hundreds of thousands of men and women who earn their living in tourism in the Dominican Republic every day in an honest and dignified manner,” the president stressed.
He also reaffirmed that the responsibility of the government he heads is to achieve the recovery of this sector and its people, to which the pandemic caused by the Covid-19 cut its income.
In the meeting with Pololikashvili, who later offered him breakfast, Abinader was accompanied by Dominican Chancellor Roberto Alvarez and ProDominicana director Biviana Riveiro.
At the end of this meeting, the governor unveiled a card, which next to the Dominican shield are accountable for the visit of the president to the headquarters of the World Tourism Organization, on April 18, 2021 .
President Abinader is on an official trip to Spain, and will be received by the King, of Spain Felipe VI, and the President of the Spanish Government, Pedro Sánchez.
Yesterday the Dominican president met with former Spanish presidents Felipe González and José María Aznar, where he was accompanied by the Dominican ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain, Juan Bolivar Díaz.
In addition, Abinader held a meeting with the Dominican community based in Spain, the representatives offered him a dinner in his honor, and he also had on his agenda a meeting with a commission of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM).
Upon his arrival at the airport Adolfo Suárez, President Abinader was received by a mission of the Spanish government and ambassadors Juan Bolivar Díaz, in Spain; Anibal de Castro before the World Tourism Organization (WTO), and that of Spain, in the Dominican Republic, Alejandro Abellan.
The official visit of the Dominican president to Spain refers, among other items on the agenda, to the XXVIII Iberoamerican Summit of Heads of State and Government, in which this year the Dominican Republic will assume the presidency pro tempore.
Abinader is scheduled to arrive in Andorra at noon tomorrow, where he will be received by the authorities of this principality. The Summit seeks to unify criteria for dealing with future pandemics and develop a programmatic agenda to strengthen health systems, in the midst of the most important international meeting between nations in the region.
The meeting brings together in person, and others virtually, the rulers and ministers of 22 Spanish-speaking and Portuguese-speaking countries.

President Abinader arrived in Madrid, Espeña, on a two-day visit, before continuing to Andorra where he will participate in the Twenty-seventh Iberoamerican Summit to be held on Tuesday and Wednesday, in which this year the Dominican Republic will assume the presidency pro tempore .

The president arrived at the airport Adolfo Suárez, at 10:40 in the morning in the company of Dominican Chancellor Roberto Álvarez and the director of ProDominicana Bibiana Ribeiro. The head of his security, Major General Celin Rubio, and his assistants Lourdes Herrera and Eilyn Beltrán.
