The Cibaeñas Eagles fulfilled the promise they made 10 days before bringing the 21st crown to the Dominican Republic and President Lluís Abinader.
And during his speech in the Hall of Ambassadors of the National Palace, the president of the Eagles, Quilvio Hernandez told an anecdote about his stay in Mazatlan, where his assistant told him that Teodoro Mariscal “was not new because it was already seven years old.
“But ours is 68 years old already,” Hernandez replied about Cibao Stadium.
For this reason, Hernández made a request to the Dominican president after the Quisqueian defeat in the Caribbean Series: to renew the country’s stadiums.
“Dominican baseball deserves to be president. We’ve earned that,” Hernandez said.
Abinader’s response was not long in coming and after thanking and congratulating the Eagles, which he considers his team, pledged to support the 2022 Caribbean Series to be played on Dominican territory.
“This event will have the full support of this government and its institutions. On the request made by friend Quilvio, this includes renovating the stadiums,” Abinader added.
The remodeling project of the different stadiums in which professional baseball is played in the country has been a project of years that includes the president of LIDOM, Vitelio Mejía Ortiz.
“We started this project in the last government and this had taken a break. Now with these statements by President Abinader it is time to give continuity to it,” Mejia said.
The Dominican Republic will host the 2022 Caribbean Series and one of the most critical points is the condition of the parks where the event could be held.
The Quisqueya Juan Marichal Stadium and the Cibao Stadium, both with almost 70 years of existence, have been mentioned as their potential and both parks need significant renovations to be more functional.
“This event will have the absolute and total support of the Dominican Government”
