Since taking office as President of the Republic, Luis Abinader has maintained that the country cannot continue to bear the brunt of Haiti’s economic problems and that he will speak to other countries such as the United States, France and Canada. to couple a development plan for the neighboring nation.
Abinader also stressed that Haiti needs to solve its problems of political instability, which have been affecting the country since 2018.

The “unofficial” visit of Roberto Alvarez
The first meeting between the new government management and the Haitian authorities took place in early November, when Chancellor Roberto Alvarez visited the country with the financial adviser of the Executive Branch, Pablo Portes. and the director of the National Research Department (DNI), Luis Soto.
On this occasion, the Minister of Foreign Affairs met with Haitian officials, foreign diplomats and representatives of international organizations, among others. However as the visit was credited as “unofficial” neither the official’s agenda nor the treaty was revealed during this trip.
Haitian Chancellor came to country
At the end of this November, the Chancellor of the Republic of Haiti, Claude Joseph, arrived in the country, who met with his counterpart and presented his credentials to the President of the Republic.
During his visit Joseph took the opportunity to ask the local authorities for a change in the rhetoric of the authorities of this country, to eliminate the “negative narrative” towards Haiti and its citizens, this from the constant statements of the first president to say that the country should not take over Haiti and that the number of Haitian women who come to the country to give birth, due to the economic and social situation facing Haiti, is directly affecting the budget.
“We have been clear with the Dominican chancellor that this negative narrative must be ruled out of the official speech. It is not good for Haiti or the Dominican Republic,” Joseph said.
Despite these controversies, Joseph called for a fraternal relationship between the Dominican Republic and Haiti. “The important thing is that we are brothers. We must act as such. Dominicans must protect Haitians and Haitians must protect Dominicans,” he said on this occasion.
