About 70 people admitted by COVID-19 to Big Island

The Hawaiʻi Department of Health reported 1,035 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, bringing the state’s total to 59,613. New deaths related to COVID were again reported.

A total of 184 new infections were identified on Big Island on Friday. The Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency reported 1,778 active cases with 69 people hospitalized.

The two-week state average is now 727 new cases a day, with a test positivity rate of 8.4%. A map documenting new cases by district on all islands can be accessed on the DOH website.

The count of cases by islands is as follows:

O’ahu: 41,934
Maui: 7,031
Hawaii: 7,100
Kaua’i: 1,157
Moloka’i: 158
Lana’i: 129
Pending: 0
Out of State: 2,104

A total of 3,359 people have been hospitalized due to COVID-19 infection since the pandemic began, while at least 582 have died.

To date, a total of 1,848,431 doses of the vaccine have been administered statewide, with 62.6% of the population fully vaccinated, with 70.9% receiving at least one shot.
