Above group of 130 Afghans in Mexico

The Mexican government provided the humanitarian aid demanded by a group of journalists and their families, stay away from the Taliban regime that seized Afghanistan, and thus put themselves out of danger.

Yesterday morning, a group of Afghan journalists collaborating with the media, such as the American The New York Times, among others, arrived at Terminal 2 of Mexico City International Airport.

Accompanied by their families, 124 people touched Mexican soil, after passing a crossing that Mexico decided to draw with them.

A plane of Qatari nationality transported these people, who today have a humanitarian visa that allows them to be in Mexico for 180 days with the possibility of renewal, and even to choose some particular immigration status.

Foreign Secretary Marcelo Ebrard, accompanied by Qatar’s ambassador to Mexico, Mohammed Alkuwari, received the group of people on foot from the plane.

“Mexico has decided to support applications for humanitarian aid, asylum, asylum, humanitarian visas, for people in Afghanistan who have asked us for this humanitarian status and, today, what you are witnessing is the representation of a group of more than 130 people who were specially working for different media, New York Times and others, in Afghanistan, ”the chancellor expressed.

Ebrard Casaubon stressed that Mexico maintains a policy in favor of the refuge, which has been in place for more than a century and a half.

“It’s about those who are risking their lives to inform, to communicate; they are committed to freedom of expression, to the freedom and independence of communication and then, it’s even more important.

“All human lives are important, but I want to emphasize today that this group that has arrived in Mexico, also represents many values ​​associated with freedom of the press and freedom of information and communication,” the official stressed.

Last Tuesday night, a group of six women arrived in Mexico, five of whom are part of the AfghanDreamers Team, a team of robotics students who were also received by the Mexican chancellor at the International Airport of Mexico City.

All the people who left Afghanistan and are now in Mexico are located in safe places. Their identities are kept confidential for their security.

The Secretary of Foreign Affairs pointed out that the readiness to provide protection and assistance for humanitarian reasons, within its capabilities, to people from Afghanistan, whose life and integrity is in imminent danger, remains.
