Actor John Travolta puts his mansion in Maine up for sale

The mansion in Maine that actor John Travolta shared with his now deceased wife, actress Kelly Preston, has gone on sale.

The 67-year-old star of “Grease” and “Saturday Night Fever,” recently put the house on Islesboro, an island off the coast of Maine, for sale for $ 5 million, according to the Portland Press Herald.

The couple bought the home in 1991 when they recently married and remodeled it from a “very dark and shady” house to a bright family home for their unborn son Jett, according to a 1999 report in Architectural Digest magazine. Built in 1903, the 1,000-square-foot (10,830-square-foot) home has 20 quarters and is on a 19-acre (48-acre) property along the ocean.

Travolta told Architectural Digest that he and Preston bought the house after visiting actress Kirstie Alley at home on the island. The couple said they always wanted to have a house big enough to accommodate dozens of relatives.

Preston, who starred opposite Tom Cruise in “Jerry Maguire” and Arnold Schwarzenegger in “Twins,” died last year after losing a two-year battle with breast cancer. He was 57 years old. Her first child, Jett, died in 2009 after suffering a seizure at the family’s vacation home in the Bahamas.

Travolta became a Hollywood star in the 1970s and was nominated for an Oscar for his performance in “Saturday Night Fever.”

He was again nominated for his role in “Pulp Fiction” in 1994.
