Adam Levine sold a defender to Olivia Rodrigo

Olivia Rodrigo released her debut album, “Sour”, in 2021, but it hasn’t been without her share of criticism and controversy.

Now, Adam Levine, former coach at “The voice“, De NBC and leader of Maroon 5, came out in defense of Rodrigo.

Levine posted an Instagram story about the situation after learning of it, reported Page Six.

Levine said in her Instagram story that writing music is “complicated” and sometimes you may not even know you’re stealing something.

“It’s natural for it to happen, and sometimes it gets ugly and sometimes it’s justified to take legal action,” he wrote according to Page Six. “Sometimes taking legal action is not justified. And I think it has become more of a gray area that is showing its crudeness these days.”

Rodrigo was accused of copying multiple composers and musicians

according to Newsweek, Rodrigo has been accused of plagiarizing music from multiple sources for his album, “Sour”.

Billboard reported that Rodrigo included Hayley Williams and Josh Farro as co-authors of his “Good 4 O” after fans combined his song with “Misery Business” online, arguing that the two sounded very similar.

Rodrigo has also been accused of plagiarizing the famous punctuation of Elvis Costello’s “Pump it Up” on his song “Brutal,” though Costello has said that’s how the industry works.

“It’s okay for me, Billy. That’s how rock and roll works. You take the broken pieces of someone else’s emotion and build a new toy.” Costello tweeted. “That’s what I did.”

Rodrigo was also accused by Courtney Love of stealing the cover of her album, according to Entertainment Weekly.

The cover, which shows what appeared to be the queen of a student gala crying with flowers in her arms, a wreath on her head and mascara falling down her face, is seen as the cover of the album “Hole “Love places one on the other,” Love argued.

“Find the differences!” Love wrote on social media. “#Twinning.” He also labeled Rodrigo in his posts and wrote in the comments that Rodrigo did not ask permission to use his idea or illustrations and said he would have been less “rude” if Rodrigo had consulted with her or his photographer, EW reported.

Rodrigo wrote on Instagram, “I love you live through this taaanto,” and Love suggested I send her flowers for the inconvenience.

Levine asked for compassion

Referring to the situation, Levine asked for some love and compassion. He referred to the lawsuit for “Blurred Lines” around 2015, when Marvin Gaye’s family sued Robin Thicke and Pharrell for plagiarism and earned $ 7,300,000 in a settlement, such as reported Rolling Stone at the time.

“Without thinking about how this turned out, I think we should take this with a little more compassion and understanding and find a way …,” Levine wrote. “After all, music is something creative and I hate to see it crushed.”

“The Voice” returns to NBC on Monday, September 20, 2021.
