Adam Schefter gives us hope that Russell Wilson, the bear trade is not dead yet

Fans of the Chicago Bears have had enough. Whether we’re talking about the last few decades or the last two days when hopes of potentially landing Russell Wilson were snatched away from us and replaced by the cruel reality of Andy Dalton.

And while Bears fans seem willing to move on and accept that his team will face quarterback again, ESPN’s Adam Schefter refuses to let us.

On Wednesday, Schefter said he doesn’t think Wilson’s stay in Seattle is a deal made. He hinted that something could happen closer to the NFL draft next month.

When Schefter joined ESPN get up Thursday morning, he was asked if his thinking had changed with a day to let it all work out.

“It’s no different,” Schefter said. “This is a situation that needs to be monitored as we approach the draft.”

Seattle doesn’t look like a team that is ready to rebuild itself, so Wilson’s trade without having a quarterback is too much this season to replace him doesn’t seem like a realistic option. And Chicago currently has no choice for them, other than possibly Dalton.

“When Seahawks general manager John Schneider has done the due diligence on all possible major quarterbacks, and he knows that any package he gets contains a quarterback he wants or the ability to go find a quarterback he wants,” he dir Schefter. . “The Bears have the eighth overall selection. With this selection they will not get a better valued potential customer. They don’t have any other quarterback on this list that they could acquire. “

The Bears would have offered three first-round picks, a third-round pick and two players in a pack for Wilson, but the Seahawks eventually declined. And that probably has to do with the fact that they don’t want to rebuild. If they passed Wilson, they would need a viable replacement.

“Although the Bears chased Russell Wilson aggressively, they really couldn’t offer the Seahawks anything to change their position at the time.

“In six weeks, we may have a different story.”

Schefter has been very careful with his wording throughout this situation, noting that this is where things are “right now,” which means he clearly doesn’t close any doors to any possibility right now.

But he also mentioned that all four teams on Wilson’s shortlist have made a play in the quarterback position this offseason, meaning Wilson should be open to expanding that roster unless he wants to stay in Seattle. . Or maybe that means waiting for the Seahawks to finally give in closer to the project.

Don’t shoot the messenger, but it doesn’t seem like this Wilson business discussion is over yet.
