Adams Co-operatives rescue animals from “attack case”

ADAMS COUNTY, Ohio – More than a dozen animals were rescued from what Adams County officials call a “hoarding case.”

Adams County dog watchdog officials said the animals, including dogs and chickens, were found in a mobile home over the weekend after the mobile home owner died. Once the watchdog found the animals, they sought help from the Humanity Society.

Jessica Huxmann, of the Humane Society of Adams County, said the smell of ammonia and urine made it nearly impossible for first-time attendees to breathe inside the house.

Inside the home, garbage piled up at almost five feet high, some animals were between eight and twelve inches from what officials believe to be daily and feces, and three malnourished chihuahuas roamed freely. Outside the house, three sick puppies were found.

Many of the animals go to the vet on Monday to pick up the shots and assess their overall health. Despite their living conditions, many of the dogs are said to be friendly to people.

Huxmann said the Humane Society offers help to pet owners to avoid situations like this.

“There are organizations that can help,” Huxmann said. “We offer free food for people who have difficulty feeding a pet. If they need to re-house a pet, there are organizations like ours that can help change the house.”

If you are interested in hosting some of these animals once the shelter has been authorized, or if you would like to make a donation to help them with veterinarian fees, please contact the Humane Society of Adams County.
