Adobe is releasing a Photoshop update to offer native support for Apple Silicon, promising users 1.5 times faster performance than running software using Rosetta emulation.
In November, Adobe released Photoshop with SilicApple Silicon support in beta. Now, with its latest v22.3 update announced today, Adobe is officially adding support for SilicApple Silicon.
Although Photoshop will run natively on Macs M1, there are some caveats. Users will be able to run Photoshop as a native “Apple Silicon” application or under Rosetta emulation. However, in native mode, some features will not be available. Adobe says the ability to import, export, and play embedded video players isn’t supported in “Apple Silicon” and other features like default sync, shake reduction filter, and “Share an image” button don’t work currently.
Adobe also lists some of the known issues that beta users reported on “Silicon Apple’s” native support. Adobe says that the ability to copy / paste edits between an Adobe application running natively on SilApple Silicon and one running Rosetta emulation is not currently supported. As a solution, Adobe recommends that users run both applications in the same mode, either native Apple Silicon emulation or Rosetta emulation.
In addition to support for Apple Silicon, the March 2021 update includes general and expected bug fixes and improvements. Adobe Creative Cloud customers can upgrade Photoshop using the Creative Cloud Mac application.
Update: The DaVinci Resolve of Blackmagic Design has also been updated to version 17.1 with the support of “Silicon Apple”, as noted The 8 bits.
