AEW did not get involved, arriving directly at the introduction to CM Punk at the beginning of Rampage on Friday night. They had to do it, as it was presented as “The First Dance,” live from Chicago.

The launch was completed with a remix from Michael Jordan’s 1995 press release, which was a nice touch to tie it up.

The Chicago crowd, who have sung the name Punk for years, continued to do so until the show began, and when “Cult of Personality” came out, they almost came off the roof.

It’s still hard to win to get paid for actual viewing, even with Punk making his AEW debut against Darby Allin, but that’s the problem on the business side. For now, Punk and AEW offered a special moment of real excitement, and you don’t get it too often in the professional fight.

Are we talking about preseason?

Elsewhere in Windy City sports, the Tears Cohen, who don’t have many answers, don’t want to hear any jokes about former Chicago cameraman Mitch Trubisky coming to town with the Bills for a preseason game.

He’s right, everyone booing Trubisky at Soldier Field is a weird thing. It’s not really the booing that does it. It’s the part where people who get booed have paid money to attend an NFL preseason game. Real disease behavior.

Who is ready for some NC State in Wazoo footbano ?!

We’ve gotten to a point with the shenanigans at the college conference where it’s not worth reading it too closely, and instead we just hope things shake up as much as they can between schools and leagues.

But it’s still news, so there are still headlines, such as “Break the ACC alliance, Big Ten, Pac-12 and what comes next“.

Who cares what the reality is? This is an opportunity to dream big dreams of what it could be.

Boston College in Oregon State? Of course.

Michigan State and Wake Forest? You bet.

Utah to Louisville? Take it forward.

It doesn’t matter, you don’t even bother to have leagues, you make the whole Power 5 an entity and you take your schedules literally out of a hat, like, two weeks before each season. Make him a stupid-looking hat too. We deserve to be entertained with the hat of the college football calendar.
