“This is really anti-American,” Gore said during an appearance on CNN Tonight with Don Lemon on Monday as he discussed the GOP’s efforts to impose greater voting restrictions, including limiting absenteeism.
“It’s a naked effort to try to suppress black, brown and indigenous votes,” the former Democratic vice president said.
Gore argued the benefits of the United States when giving voice to more people with varied experiences and perspectives and pushed back efforts to limit absenteeism, amid other restrictions.
“There is no history of electoral fraud. One or two small cases from time to time,” he stated.
“We should invite everyone to the polling booth and have everyone participate in this nation’s guide,” he added.

Gore stressed Monday that instead of making voting difficult, especially for marginalized populations, the U.S. should take other measures to expand access to voting.
“We should vote on weekends instead of Tuesday, on a working day,” said Gore, who launched a national voter registration campaign in collaboration with the Climate Reality Action Fund on 2020.
Democrats have long pushed for automatic voter registration, with several states, including New York, New Mexico, Nevada and Massachusetts, taking steps to allow the practice in recent years. These automatic voter registration measures are based on a “deactivation” system rather than a “participation” plan.
Hawaii advanced a measure last month that would allow those eligible to vote to automatically register when they apply for a driver’s license or state ID card.
