Alaska Airlines will require unvaccinated employees to undergo periodic Covid-19 screening tests, but the Seattle-based carrier has failed to meet vaccination obligations, a policy it said it would consider last month.

Alaska said employees who share vaccination tests before Oct. 15 will receive a $ 200 bonus. To date, three-quarters of the airline’s approximately 20,000 employees are vaccinated.

Vaccination policies of airlines for their staff vary. United Airlines will require the vaccination of its U.S. workforce of about 68,000 people by Sept. 27, with no religious and medical exceptions. Delta Air Lines announced last month that it plans to impose a $ 200 surcharge on health insurance for unvaccinated employees in November.

Alaska Airlines said it will no longer cover the salary of unvaccinated employees for exposure or infection to Covid. Unvaccinated staff must also attend “a vaccine education program.”

New hires must be vaccinated to work for Alaska Airlines or its subsidiary Horizon Air, a requirement also for starting work at Delta.
