A lawyer for a prominent legal family in Hampton, South Carolina, was shot Saturday, just months after his wife and son were shot dead at his home.
Alex Murdaugh’s lawyer told the local dam The state that his client had driven down a remote road to Charleston when his car was not working properly. He was arrested and later shot, although the circumstances of the attack and the extent of the injuries are not yet known. He was rushed to a nearby hospital after the shooting. Police have not named any suspects.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) confirmed to The Daily Beast that it is investigating a shooting in Hampton County and they were called in to assist the Hampton County Sheriff’s Office in its investigation. at 1:30 p.m.
Murdaugh’s wife, Maggie, 52, and Paul, 22, were found with fatal injuries at the family home in Colleton County on June 7, apparently the mother shot with a rifle and the son with a shotgun. No suspects have been named.
At the time of his death, Paul was charged with the death of a teenager named Mallory Beach on a boat in 2019.
