South Carolina authorities will launch an investigation into the death of former ruler for dishonored attorney Alex Murdaugh who died in a mysterious 2018 crash and fall accident, authorities said Wednesday.
“Based on a request from the Hampton County coroner earlier today, as well as information gathered during the course of our other ongoing investigations related to Alex Murdaugh, SLED opens a criminal investigation into the death of Gloria Satterfield and the management of her property “. said the South Carolina police division in a statement.
The announcement came on the same day that Satterfield’s two sons, Tony Satterfield and Brian Harriott, filed a lawsuit against Murdaught for his alleged breach of damages for his death.
Family lawyers said none of the $ 505,000 settled with Murdaugh has been paid.
Gloria Satterfield, 57, worked as a babysitter for the Murdaughs for more than two decades and was “told she was part of the Murdaugh family, according to the lawsuit filed in Hampton County. February 2018 fell mysteriously while he worked at Murdaugh’s house and died.
In December 2018, Murdaugh agreed to a $ 505,000 payment to the Satterfield children. The amount would be divided to cover $ 500,000 in liability and $ 5,000 in medical expenses, depending on demand.
“So far, Tony and Brian have not received any money for any claims or agreements with Murdaugh and his insurance companies after his mother’s death – Not a penny ” attorney Eric Bland complained in the lawsuit.

The lawsuit also named Corey Fleming, who Murdaugh filed for Satterfield and Harriott to be his attorney. Flemming and his company received $ 166,000 to represent the Satterfield family while nothing has been paid to the two children, according to the lawsuit.
Court documents said Fleming was a former roommate of Murdaugh, a close friend and godfather of his 22-year-old son, Paul. Paul Murdaugh and his mother, Maggie, were found by Alex Murdaugh shot dead outside their home in June.
“Tony and Brian trusted Alex Murdaugh and because of their trust in him, Tony and Brian kept Fleming and MKF to represent them,” the lawsuit states.

The lawsuit and the new investigation come amid a separate investigation into a recent shooting that injured Murdaugh, a well-known lawyer, whose wife, Maggie, and son were murder in a double shoot in June.
Authorities arrested a man who allegedly conspired with Murdaugh to shoot him and kill him in a strange plot to charge $ 10 million in life insurance to his son. Murdaugh suffered a superficial wound on Sept. 4 next to a country road.
He told authorities he was shot while trying to fix a tire.
