The last five episodes Alex Trebek recorded as a longtime lover for “Jeopardy!” will be broadcast from Monday.
Trebek, who lost the battle against pancreatic cancer in November, will be honored during the presentation of his latest episode on Friday with “a special tribute to the life and work of the man who captained the favorite contest program of ‘America with skill, style and sophistication by According to a statement from “Jeopardy!”
The last episodes of Trebek were originally scheduled during Christmas week, but the producers pushed back the schedules because they said the holidays might be too chaotic for viewers to tune into.
The Canadian-American game presenter announced his cancer diagnosis in March 2019, but aired episodes from the 2020-21 season before dying at age 80.
The producers say they didn’t know that what would end up being their last show would, in fact, be the last.
“Danger!” will continue to air new episodes starting Jan. 11 with guest host and $ 4,370,700 lifetime show winner Ken Jennings at the helm.
The show has not named a new permanent host to replace Trebek, but bookmakers are already betting on his successor, with Jennings, George Stephanopoulos, LeVar Burton, Neil deGrasse Tyson and Pat Sajak among the first.
