Amazon has announced real-time translations in its Alexa digital assistant, a feature that will allow you to translate a conversation between people who speak different languages.
Real-time translation is available on Echo devices for users in the United States, and supports English, French, Spanish, Hindi, Portuguese (Brazil), German, or Italian, as reported on TechCrunch.
Alexa’s new feature uses speech recognition and neural machine translation technologies, which allow translations from English to other languages, and vice versa.
Thus, before the voice command ‘Alexa, translated French’, users who will have a conversation in English and French will have an assistant as a simultaneous translator, which will automatically detect one language and translate it into another.
Translations are also transcribed on Echo Show devices, which have a screen.
