“Friends, one of the most important events in the history of Cuban freedom and that is most closely linked to the current reality on the island is LA PROTESTA Baragua on March 15, 1878. That is why Alexis Valdés chose this date as the release of the song I AM CUBAN who wrote it and we recorded it together last January. We will be posting small snippets of the video daily until the 15th. I hope you like it! ”said the singer.
the song I am Cuban, Is dedicated to all Cubans who walk around the world and keep alive their roots and identity. the project of this duo of popular artists aims to make a video in which citizens participate from as many places in the world as possible, as announced at the time.
“We are preparing a video in which we want to include images of Cubans who are the same in Europe, in Asia, in Africa, in North or South America. In other words, we want them to appear in this video. many of you, who are the reason for this song, “said Alexis Valdés on his Instagram profile, where he encouraged all those compatriots who wanted to be part of the audiovisual to be recorded from somewhere characteristic of the city or town in which they reside. They had to add some significant element that refers to the island and that expresses the identity and customs of the Cuban.
Recently Valdés and Chirino were invited to participate in the virtual meeting that took place of Cuban artists in front of the European Parliament, Under the title “Homeland and Life, Art and Politics United by Cuba”, following the success of the song Homeland and Life, performed by Yotuel, Zone People, Descemer Bé, Maykel Osorbo and the Funky.
This time the comedian appealed to Europe and the world to support Cubans in change, Because the country needs a transition to democracy. “He cannot follow the world by turning his back on what is happening in Cuba,” he said.
For his part, Chirino indicated that everyone knows the Cuban government repression and thanked a song like Homeland and Life the opportunity to bring his countrymen together to drive democratic change in Cuba.
“A song is stronger than a rifle or an army, and I know that. A bullet extinguishes a heart, a song, it ignites it. Today there are many hearts lit thanks to a song,” he told the European Parliament. .
The new musical theme recorded by Alexis Valdés and Willy Chirino is more than a song. The video they are preparing could become, if they get a wide participation of Cubans in different parts of the world, a beautiful testimony of the Cuban diaspora, which according to the comedian, “will stay forever.”
