The Cuban comedian and actor Alexis Valdés appealed to all Cubans who felt represented by the witnesses of a group of representatives of the island in a virtual meeting this Friday with the European Parliament, following the repercussions of the issue Homeland and Life.

The director and producer also said that in addition to the strong support that the appearance had had, publications of Cuban accounts were also appearing on the networks, saying that what was said about Cuba “does not represent Cubans”, many of whom false accounts or official accounts of Cuban government institutions.

“A lot of people have said that they liked the talk, that they were moved by the testimonies of all of us, and as always, some false accounts or handled by the Cuban government have said that we do not represent the Cubans. I would like those who felt represented to put their name here [en la publicación] because it’s also good for the whole world to know how many people do feel represented, ”Alexis expressed on her social media.

In less than an hour, Alexis’s post on Facebook garnered more than 1,500 comments with names of Cubans who felt represented before the European Parliament, and around 400 on Instagram.

This Friday more than 10 members of Cuban civil society participated in the virtual meeting “Homeland and Life: Art and Politics United by Cuba” in the European Parliament and, in addition to sharing the repression and censorship that they have lived in their own flesh, They also made visible issues such as freedom of expression; the persecution and defamation of activists, artists and journalists; the economic and agroecological situation; feminicide and the lack of protection of women; emigration, exiles, regulations, the precarious health system, among others.

Among the Cuban panelists were, in addition to Alexis Valdés, art curator Anamely Ramos, writer Wendy Guerra, artists Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara and Maykel Osorbo, director Asiel Babastro and musicians and representatives of the Cuban exiles in Miami, Willy Chirino and Arturo Sandoval.
