SAINT ANTHONY – As COVID-19 vaccination figures continue to rise statewide, Texas officials have expanded eligibility to include all residents 50 years of age or older, the Texas Department of Health and Human Services announced Wednesday .
As of March 15, jeans ages 50 to 64, which belong to the state’s Phase 1C category, will now be able to sign up for vaccination appointments.
“There are about 5 million jeans between the ages of 50 and 64; more than a million of them are already vaccinated, “according to the department’s press release.
According to the department, more than half of Texas seniors have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 30% are fully vaccinated.
Currently, people in the Phase 1A and Phase 1B categories are eligible for the vaccine, as well as teachers and school and child care staff.

Phase 1A includes front-line health workers and long-term caregivers and Phase 1B includes people over the age of 65 or anyone 16 or older with a chronic illness that poses a higher risk of serious illness for COVID-19. People who work in early childhood, primary and secondary schools, as well as in the Head Start and Early Head Start programs (including teachers, staff and bus drivers) and those who work as care providers authorized children or including family and family care providers are also eligible as of March 3rd.
