Images of an aluminum clip supposedly based on the upcoming sixth-generation iPad mini have surfaced online. The cut largely coincides with rumors of what to expect on the iPad mini 6, including a larger screen instead of a Home button, a thinner body, and flatter edges.
The images originated on the techordo.com website in collaboration with a leaker named xleaks7, with a history of accurate leaks not very well established. The clipping shows a design very much in line with versions of the upcoming iPad mini shared by Jon Prosser, Apple’s leaker in early June.
An interesting change that the images show is the relocation of the volume buttons. The volume buttons on iPads have always been on the right side, however, the images show the buttons relocated to the top, on the opposite side of the power button.
The new iPad mini will be inspired by the upgrade of the iPad Air and iPad Pro by abandoning the home button in favor of a full screen design. Apple is unlikely to provide users with the Face ID embedded in the bezel and is expected to integrate Touch ID into the power button, similar to the “iPad Air”. It is also expected to include a faster processor and possibly USB-C.
Reliable Bloomberg Journalist Mark Gurman has reported that the new iPad mini is on track to be released this fall, along with the new iPhones, Apple Watches, AirPods and MacBook Pros.
