Now that Amazon has largely integrated Whole Foods into its online shopping options, the online shopping giant wants to eliminate some of its most redundant offerings by closing its first pantrand delivery service.

Launched in 2014, Prime Pantry was created to help people buy non-perishable groceries or clean up bulk supplies using a low-cost flat-rate shipping (or free if you’re a member of Amazon Prime), with the caveat that all items had to fit inside a single standard size box.

Later in 2018, for anyone other than an Amazon Prime subscriber, Amazon gave customers the option to pay $ 5 a month to subscribe to Amazon Pantry in order to avoid the initial flat shipping rates .

However, following the acquisition of Whole Foods’ English in 2017 and the expansion of Prime Now and Amazon Fresh’s delivery options, it appears that Prime Pantry had become unnecessary and, on Wednesday, this week, Amazon decided to permanently close Prime Pantry.

In a statement made to Bloomberg, said an Amazon spokesperson “As part of our commitment to providing the best possible customer experience, we decided to transfer the selection of Amazon Pantry to Amazon.com’s main store so customers can get home products newspapers more quickly, without the need for subscription or purchase “.

The Amazon spokesperson also stated that previous Prime Pantry subscribers had received notification of Prime Pantry’s upcoming closure in December and that they should have received refunds for unused subscription time.

While I occasionally liked to load a box of Prime Pantry full of junk food before things like the Super Bowl, given the massive expansion of Amazon’s online shopping empire over the past few years, Prime Pantry was probably already too late to be removed.
