Amazon on Saturday night suspended the social networking platform Parler from its web hosting service, according to several media reports.

Amazon is the latest technology giant to take steps to limit the social media application favored by conservatives and right-wing groups for lack of content moderation. The online retailer is following in the footsteps of Apple, which suspended the Parler app Saturday morning, and Google, which removed the platform from its app store Friday night.
Amazon’s suspension of Parler’s account means the app runs the risk of disconnecting on Sunday night, according to Buzzfeed News.
Parler has been under recent scrutiny following the violent attacks on the U.S. Capitol after various media outlets reported that Parler was used to help coordinate the riots.

The Amazon Web Services Trust and Security Team (AWS) sent an email to Parler’s policy director, Amy Peikoff, explaining her decision.
“Recently, we’ve seen a steady increase in this violent content on your website, which violates all of our terms,” says the email, obtained by Buzzfeed. “Clearly, Parler does not have an effective process for meeting AWS service terms.”
The email indicates when the suspension will take effect.
“[W]We cannot provide services to a customer who is unable to effectively identify and remove content that encourages or incites violence against others. Because Parler is unable to meet our terms of service and poses a very real risk to public safety, we plan to suspend Parler’s account from Sunday, January 10 at 11:59 p.m. “
