Johnny Depp’s camp believes the opposing star could finally win in the hall, because his ex, Amber Heard, allegedly stopped donating funds from his divorce to charity.
When ex-wife Heard raised $ 7 million in her 2017 divorce settlement, she pledged to donate cash to the American Civil Liberties Union and Children’s Hospital in Los Angeles.
But on Wednesday it came out in court that Heard never handed over the money to charities.
Now sources close to Depp think the revelation could work to their advantage in trying to appeal to another of their many legal battles.
The “Pirates of the Caribbean” star sued the British newspaper The Sun after calling her a “wife” for allegedly attacking Heard during their marriage. He lost the case last July.
But now he is trying to appeal against the sentence.
Heard was a key witness in the original case and a judge ruled that the allegations made against Depp in the article were “substantially true.”
But sources close to Depp’s team told us this week, “The judge believed it was this wonderful human being who was defending humanity,” for his alleged generosity, “but she was pulled from the ass [about the donations]”.
On Thursday, at a hearing in London to decide whether Depp can appeal, his lawyer stated that the claim for the money donation was a “calculated and manipulative lie”.
But Sun’s lawyers said Heard was not lying, that he had made “a series of payments” and had not yet surrendered.
It also came out in court that Depp had sent a text to a friend at the time saying, “No way, he won’t give a penny to anyone !!! Thanks f – k he’s gone !!! It hurts me to think the degree of difficulty I did to make it work … Now … Honestly, I wouldn’t touch that bitch with a Hazmat dress on !!! What a slag. I don’t hate it !!! “
Heard and Depp’s representatives did not respond.
