American disappears while diving in Roatan

Roatan.

The Honduran National Police reported on Saturday the disappearance of an American citizen, who went diving in the early hours of Friday morning on the reefs of Roatan, Bay Islands.

It was 7:00 am when William Wayne Perkins (57), a diving instructor from Colorado, USA, went diving in the West End from the island to the Honduran Caribbean. However, friends and relatives of the American reported to the authorities that they did not hear from him again.

Perkins resides in the community of West End, Roatan.

After receiving the denunciation of the disappearance, elements of the Police Direction of Investigations and the Naval force they mobilized to undertake research tasks.

The administrator of the local Dive Center, a center that has diving equipment, reported that William Wayne Perkins came out loading oxygen tanks that only have durability for two hours.

He added that the American did not enter the sea by boat or boat, but did so by means of a spring that divers use to dive into the waters of the Caribbean, to dive in the ‘reef that is in the same place.

In addition to IPR and Naval force, Firefighters from the island are also involved in the search; but actions are seen as difficult due to bad weather and strong swell prevailing in the northern region of Honduras, affected by a mass of cold air that entered Friday.
