Mexico City /
President Andrés Manuel López Obrador called on migrants not to be “deceived” by new US policies, as so far the restrictions have not changed and deportations continue.
In La Matinera, the Chief Executive has indicated that, by order of President Joe Biden, the migration situation of compatriots and Central American migrants will be regularized, but recalled that these policies will not pass “overnight”.
“They are very good intentions and I celebrate them, but President Biden himself has informed me that it will take them a while to define their migration policy.
“Then it’s not that everyone can go to the United States and they’re going to be regularized, there’s still no specific definition, it’s a policy guideline yet, the application is missing,” he said.
The president warned that the same number of deportations still continues, as they did in the last government with Donald Trump. In the face of this, he has asked migrants for understanding and patience from the US Administration. At the same time, he appealed not to be deceived.
“Have this information so that they are not deceived by human traffickers“They paint them a pink world,” he said.
The president sent a message to members of criminal gangs who traffic in people to abandon this illicit activity and called for a change of attitude, because his government offers them options to move forward.
“Especially young people, who give up abandoning this illegal activity that harms others, their neighbors, but also affects them, their families. (…) Now there are options to get ahead, young people have the opportunity to study, to have a job”, He pointed out.
López Obrador took the opportunity to reiterate his initiative to help Central American countries and southern Mexico, investing in education and support, to address the main causes of migration and that no one should leave their places of origin out of necessity. He noted that this area it was highly affected by the recent floods in addition to the pandemic of covid-19. “There is a difficult situation, but we must look for ways to have options, alternatives, work and well-being,” he said.
