An emerging new potential trading partner for the Dolphins in the 2021 draft

One of the Miami Dolphins ’biggest challenges in the 2021 NFL draft is finding the right value with their asset premiere, the No. 3 general election. A hotly contested debate will continue to rage as fans weigh options, including a possible change in this position for a team hungry for a quarterback.

Miami’s most attractive option for a quarterback deal, the Detroit Lions, have already addressed the position with the change from Matt Stafford to Jared Goff and his national team, making them an unlikely candidate in the quarterbacks market. . What made Detroit so suitable for Miami as a potential partner was the distance the Dolphins should move: the Lions are just four points behind the Dolphins in the No. 7 order overall.

But with Detroit seemingly out of the picture, Miami’s backward market is becoming increasingly risky with new downward movements. Carolina at eight is a viable candidate, but she feels destined to have a less wide receiver on the board with the Lions picking ahead of that spot in order. Maybe Denver at 9 is on the market and San Francisco at 12 is true. But does Miami want to get out of the top-10?

If not, the team can rest easy with the knowledge of a new candidate for a change scenario: the Philadelphia Eagles.

Currently, the Eagles are facing off to move veteran quarterback Carson Wentz, who has seen his relationship with the team presumably erode to the point of not returning. And with the Eagles looking to send Wentz to the Midwest (it is rumored that the club’s leaders for their services will be Indianapolis and Chicago), Philadelphia will add some Day 2 picks to its asset collection in the near future.

And Philadelphia, which ranks No. 6 in the NFL draft order this year, will apparently reevaluate its quarterback status, and at least one Eagles beat writer, The Philadelphia Enquirer’s Bowen, seems to think that a quarterback at the top of the draft order.

If the Eagles move Wentz and expect a first-class quarterback on the board, he will have a rude awakening that appears to them. Trevor Lawrence is an alleged blocker at No. 1, while Zach Wilson or Justin Fields appear destined for a selection at No. 2 hole in the Jets (or other team). His purchases in Miami keep the threat of three quarterbacks in three options a very real possibility and Carolina will breathe a sigh of relief for the Eagles unless there is a major development with QB Deshaun Watson or someone in the entire league.

So, Philadelphia: Is there any interest in replicating Sam Darnold’s trade from 2018? That year, the Jets sent three second-round picks to the Colts to go from No. 6 to No. 3 overall and draft Sam Darnold. After the Eagles moved Wentz, the team could theoretically send the following pack to climb three places:

Num. 6 in general
Number 37 in general
Num. 52 in general or 54 in general (assuming Wentz trades with Chicago or Indianapolis)
A selection from the second round of 2022

It may seem like a high price to pay, but remember that the Jets did exactly the same trade with the Colts in 2018. This deal sent selections no. 37 and 49 of the 2018 NFL draft and a selection from the second round of 2019 (No. 34 overall).

With that in mind, Dolphins fans everywhere should take root for the Eagles to close a deal with Wentz and take the next step in the process of exploring trading options to get back to the No. 3 general election.
