BOONE COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) – The West Virginia National Guard has issued a statement on an error in the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine in Boone County.
According to the WVNG, the mistake caused 42 people to receive the Regeneron Antibody product instead of the Modern vaccine.
Officials say these people received the antibody product at a vaccination clinic hosted by Boone County Health Department staff.
The WVNG states that medical experts from the Joint Interagency Task Force do not believe there is any risk of harm to these 42 people.
Other people were not given the antibody instead of the vaccine in West Virginia.
None of the other shipments of vaccines before yesterday or in the future will be affected by this.
According to the National Guard, vaccine-related protocols have been revised and strengthened.
According to officials, 7,855 West Virginians were vaccinated Wednesday across the state.
“The moment we were notified of what happened, we acted immediately to correct it and immediately reviewed and strengthened our protocols to improve our distribution process to prevent this from happening again,” he said. say General James Hoyer, Deputy General of the West Virginia National Guard. “I remain incredibly proud of everything our team has achieved. Our main goal has been to save lives and as we continue to increase the distribution of the vaccine across the state, we continue to save more and more lives every day.” .
“The administered product is antibodies that fight COVID-19,” said Dr. Clay Marsh, the state’s Tsar COVID-19. “In fact, this product was the same one that was administered to President Trump when he became infected. While this injection is not harmful, it was replaced by the vaccine. But this occurrence provides our leadership team with an important opportunity to review and improve the safety and vaccination process of every Western Virginian. “
