OMAHA, Nebraska (WOWT): A picture is worth a thousand words and this posted on Gulliver’s World Goods Facebook page is causing controversy.
“I couldn’t believe someone in our community would publicly post a sign that said‘ don’t feed wildlife, don’t feed the homeless. ’They’re our brothers and sisters,” said Lisa Clark, who saw the message.
The sign is nowhere to be found. He disappeared as quickly as he arrived. But the image is shared over and over again online.
“It was very annoying for me because I had been a single mom for over 16 years,” Lisa said. I was so close to being homeless so many times. ”
Gulliver’s world merchandise director Matt claims he was even homeless for a while and says he has no idea who would have put the sign out of the store.
“It’s not me, I don’t own it,” Matt said. We are compassionate people. As I said, we stayed, dressed, fed, used one when we first arrived at the place. Do weird work, paint, stuff like that. That, of course, is not what we feel about his situation. “
But in a post on Gulliver’s Facebook page, the store says it was an “extremely poor trial choice made by an employee” and that he was fired.
However, one of Gulliver’s co-owners, Chaz Kline, contradicts this. In a phone call, Kline says no one has been fired, investigating and taking full responsibility for what was put on his property. Clark hopes people use this as a time to reflect and help those in need.
“Nothing homeless is fun,” Lisa said. And I want to appeal to everyone during this pandemic and just during this time of our society. We have to be kind to each other. ”
According to other posts on social media, the business next door also had the same sign placed on the window. No calls or messages returned to address.
Here’s a new sign that was put up at Gulliver’s.
