Andy Reid of the Kansas City Chiefs disappointed Eric Bieniemy, happy for David Culley to hire NFL coaches

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Kansas City Heads coach Andy Reid expressed disappointment that offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy was turned down by an NFL head coach opening for the third year in a row.

“I’m glad to have him [for at least another season]”But I’m not so happy to have him,” Reid said Thursday after the Chiefs began coaching in the Super Bowl LV against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. “I really hoped he had a chance to take on one of those jobs. . You know what I think of him. I think it’s fantastic. I think it would be great for any team that opened up and would help them win football games and also turn men into men. I just think he’s a great person. “

Bieniemy, in his third season as Chiefs coordinator, was interviewed during six coaching premieres this year. He also interviewed several openers in each of the previous two years.

One of Reid’s former assistants, David Culley, worked as a head coach with the Houston jeans. Culley coached Reid for 18 seasons, including from 2013 to 2016 with the Chiefs as a wide receiver coach.

“David will do a good job,” Reid said. “He’s a person. He’ll bring energy to the building. One of the most loyal guys I’ve ever met. He’s a great person. We were together for 18 years. We had a few cheeseburgers together.”
