The coach will have a game plan with and without Muhammad for Sunday
KANSAS City, Mo. – The coach of the Chiefs of Kansas City, Andy Reid said Monday he didn’t know if Patrick Mahomes will come out of the NFL concussion protocol in time to play the AFC Championship next Sunday. But Reid indicated that Muhammad would have felt good enough to return to Sunday’s Divisional Round game.
After receiving a blow and falling, Muhammad stood up and staggered momentarily. He then went for a brief examination in the medical tent before heading to the Chiefs ’locker room at Arrowhead Stadium.
“There was a possibility,” Reid agreed. “You saw him run through the tunnel. By the time he arrived, he was feeling pretty good. But there’s a protocol that has to be followed and that’s out of the hands of the player, the coach and the doctor.” .
Muhammad was replaced in the third quarter by Chad Henne, Who finished the Chiefs victory 22-17 over the Cleveland Browns.
The Chiefs face the Buffalo Bills Sunday in Arrowhead in the AFC title game. Reid said they would have a plan if Muhammad or Henne start as quarterback.
“Because of the protocol, it’s obvious from the coach’s point of view,” Reid remarked. “You don’t have to think about it. You just have to go ahead and make sure you have an answer if he’s there and one if he’s not there. I can’t tell you from a medical point of view. I don’t know. This it is his decision and I will only follow it. “
