Sorokin, 30, invented a new identity when she arrived in the United States in 2016, posing as an heiress when in fact she was the daughter of a former Russian truck driver who moved to Germany when she was 16 years old. .

Netflix bought the rights to her amazing story told by Jessica Pressler in New York magazine for a series written by producer Shonda Rimes (“Gray’s Anatomy”) starring Julia Garner.

Sorokin received tens of thousands of dollars from Netflix in rights and consulting, but spent the majority on lawyers and court-ordered fines and restitutions, according to various media outlets.
