Apple CEO Tim Cook is eager for employees to return to the office after the pandemic and in an interview with Gent, said it expects Apple to implement a “hybrid environment” to return to work in person.
Cook said it’s important for people to be “physically in touch” because collaboration and innovation can’t be planned.
“Innovation is not always a planned activity,” Cook adds. “It’s clashing with each other throughout the day and advancing an idea you just had. And you really need to be together to do it.”
Apple has an open-plan model designed to encourage employees to interact with each other, and Cook says Apple is still “discovering” how to manage it as people get back to work. Time out of the office, however, has taught Apple that some things are “perfectly fantastic” to do practically.
“We’ve realized and learned that there are some things that are perfect to do pretty much through Zoom or WebEx, anything or FaceTime, anything you can have. So I think it will be, I’ll say hybrid environment. [for] a little “.
Cook also took the opportunity to point out the work that Apple employees did while working remotely. Cook said Apple had a “huge and prolific period” with the introduction of the iPhone 12 5G line and the M1 Macs. “These are the main major achievements,” he said.
“We’re a very face-to-face team because we think it’s better to collaborate,” Cook said Gent. “But we knew this was no longer possible or not possible during that time period. So we had to reinvent ourselves.”
Cook said there was no firm date for returning to work, but “can’t wait” for Apple employees to return to work.
In addition to commenting on Apple’s future plans for employees to return to work, Cook answered a series of quick questions about his daily routine. Cook said he goes to bed around 9:30 p.m. and wakes up at 4 p.m. He opens Apple News early in the morning, and coffee and his iPhone are two things he can’t live without.
Cook said he recently “made” Apple TV + ’s“ Ted Lasso ”series, and that strength training is his favorite workout. Cook also said he did FaceTim for the last time with his nephew, his favorite emoji is the peace sign emoji (✌️) and he hopes to take a trip to Glacier National Park in the future.
