Apple is temporarily closing all stores in California amid a steady increase in COVID-19 cases in the state.
The 53 stores will be closed until further notice due to the alarming increase in hospitalization in California, Apple said in a statement to CNBC.
“Due to the current Covid-19 conditions in some of the communities we serve, we are temporarily closing stores in these areas,” an Apple spokesman told the outlet.
“We take this step with great caution as we closely monitor the situation and look forward to returning our teams and customers as soon as possible.”
Customers will be able to pick up existing online orders and attend scheduled technical support appointments.
The drastic move comes after the tech giant closed its stores in Los Angeles, Bloomberg reported Friday.
Apple’s shutdowns follow a serious milestone for Southern California, where health officials said Thursday that the region has run out of ICU beds for patients.
California has seen more than 1,800,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus and more than 22,400 deaths Saturday night, according to the state board COVID-19.
