Apple closes Michigan stores amid an increase in COVID

Apple Inc. announced Friday that the company is temporarily closing its retail stores in Michigan amid an increase in COVID-19 cases in the state.

Apple said it will still allow customers to pick up in stores with existing orders or items over the weekend.

“Due to the current conditions of COVID-19, we are temporarily closing our stores in Michigan. We take this step with great caution, as we closely monitor the situation and look forward to returning our teams and customers as soon as possible. For help with an Apple product, more ways to buy, or additional information in our stores, visit http://apple.com/retail, ”says an Apple statement.

Michigan on Friday reported 8,955 new cases of COVID-19 and an additional 40 deaths as the state faced an increase in the disease.

The state also reported another increase in COVID hospitalizations Friday: 4,183 patients hospitalized with the disease at Michigan hospitals, of whom 873 were in critical care.
