ZACK GUZMAN: Well, Apple expects to introduce a new iPhone along with a stack of other handsets at a special event in a few hours. But there are a couple of things that weigh on this, including the ruling we got last week against Epic Games, as well as a last-minute security patch that was issued to help fix some issues.

And for more information, I want to introduce Dan Howley of Yahoo Finance because, well, Dan, I don’t know if you want to start with security issues or anything that weighs on that before the big event. But it’s rare to see Apple face problems ahead of something like this.

DAN HOWLEY: Yes, let’s start with the security issue. This comes from the NSO group. It is basically a more or less technological Israeli company looking for ways to split into different types of devices. Thus, they managed to break into the iPhone through a click-free penetration capability.

Really, what happens is that someone can send you a message on your phone. And you don’t even have to touch it. It will automatically inject malware. And from there you can have total control over the iPhone.

Now, this is something that has been known for a while, actually a few months. There was a report from different organizations pointing out that this software existed. Apple is moving forward now, making sure to put some kind of kibosh in it and blocking the possibility of this type of malware working.

And the other issue we have is Apple’s Epic demand. That concluded. We are waiting to see if or not Apple complies with this decision. But it essentially allows third-party developers to provide a different medium for customers to pay for apps or in-app purchases, which is really interesting, given that Apple has put so much emphasis on its store and how what people buy. But these are two of the big problems the company faces.

As for the event, we are looking at the iPhone 13 that will be announced. So we hope it says so. It is supposed to have a faster screen, new camera enhancements and a more robust processor. And then a new Apple Watch, the Apple Watch Series 7, which is supposed to have a completely new redesign, in addition to two larger screens. I’m a big fan of the Apple Watch, so I’m especially excited about this one. Although I just bought a 6 series, so I don’t know if I will buy the 7 series. Who knows?

And then we also have a new pair of AirPods. And those that are supposed to sleep between the original AirPods or the original AirPods. They’re sometimes called AirPods 2. And AirPods Pro, and they’ll really look like the Pro, but not noise cancellation or interchangeable tips.

And then we can get a new iPad Mini. This has been in desperate need of an update for some time. Therefore, you are supposed to get smaller bezels, a better looking screen, and a larger screen overall. So I hope we get some, just because the iPad Mini is also one of my favorites.

ZACK GUZMAN: Dan Howley, you will have a very busy afternoon. That Apple event started at 1:00 p.m. And it will have it all for us at Yahoo Finance. Thank you for joining us with a look ahead.
