(WXYZ): Apple is temporarily closing stores in Michigan due to current COVID-19 conditions.
“We are taking this step very carefully as we closely monitor the situation and look forward to returning our computers and cusotmers as soon as possible,” Apple said in a statement.
Apple has six stores in Michigan.
Michigan’s coronavirus case rate has been one of the worst in the country. As of Thursday, there have been more than 770,000 cases of the virus in total, with nearly 200,000 since early March.
As of April 15, there were about 4,000 people statewide hospitalized with COVID-19 and many hospitals are about to have capacity.
Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer outlined several reasons why she said COVID-19 cases are on the rise in Michigan, blaming variants and non-compliance by residents more than a year after the pandemic began.
On April 16, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services extended its meetings and ordered the mask epidemic. The order includes expanding mask requirements to children ages 2 to 4.
