Apple today released macOS Big Sur 11.1, the first major update to the initial version of the OSmacOS Big Sur 11.0.1 operating system that was released on November 12th. OSmacOS Big Sur 11.1 was released after four rounds of beta testing.
The new OSmacOS Big Sur 11.1 update can be downloaded for free on all eligible Macs using the Software Update section of System Preferences.
No major new features were discovered during the update during the beta testing period, but according to Apple’s release notes, the new software adds support for AirPods Max, introduces a new Apple TV + tab,
MacOS Big Sur 11.1 features AirPods Max support, TV app enhancements, Apple News widgets, and privacy information in the App Store. This release also includes bug fixes for your Mac.
AirPods max
– Support for irAirPods Max, new over-ear headphones
– Hi-fi audio for rich sound
The adaptive EQ adapts the real-time sound to the personal fit of the ear pads
– Active noise cancellation to avoid environmental noise
– Transparency mode to listen to the environment around you
– Spatial audio with dynamic head tracking for a theater-like listening experience
Apple TV
– The new TVApple TV + tab makes it easy to discover and watch original Apple shows and movies
– Enhanced search to be able to browse categories, such as genre, and view recent searches and suggestions as you type
– The best search results are displayed with the most relevant matches from movies, TV shows, cast, channels and sports
Apple News
– Apple News widgets are now available in the Notification Center
App Store
– New section of privacy information on the pages of the “App Store” which includes a summary of the privacy practices of the application presented by the developer
– The game board within Arcade Games recommends playing new arcade games
– iPhone and iPad applications on Macs with M1
– New window options for iPhone and iPad applications allow you to switch between horizontal and vertical orientations or expand a window to fill the entire screen
Pictures
– Apple ProRAW photos can be edited in the Photos app
Safari
– Ecosia search engine option in Safari
Air quality
– Available on Maps and Siri for locations in mainland China
– Sanitary recommendations are provided to Siri for the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, India and Mexico at certain levels of air quality
This release also addresses the following issues:
– QuickTime Player can exit when opening a movie with a time code track after updating from macOS Catalina
– Bluetooth connection status was not displayed in the Control Center
– Reliability of unlocking your Mac automatically with your Apple Watch
– Trackpad scroll speed may be faster than expected on MacBook Pro models
– LG UltraFine 5K screen may display incorrectly at 4K resolution on Macs with M1
