Apple will not be holding the iPad Pro, “AirTags” launch event on March 16th

From Bloomberg Mark Gurman poured cold water on rumors of an Apple hardware special event that was supposedly scheduled for March 16, rumors that began making rounds over the weekend in the back of unfounded tweets.

Earlier this week, Twitter accounts “LeaksApplePro” and “FrontTron” claimed that Apple planned to launch a new model of iPad Pro, iPad mini and “AirTags” tracking hardware at a major event on March 16th. South Korean publication Daily economic news subsequently, he picked up and ran with unconfirmed gossip in a report that has since been cited by numerous online outlets.

“LeaksApplePro” is not known to have knowledge of Apple’s business and, in the past, has made erroneous claims about new products and launch deadlines. Meanwhile, “FrontTron” seems to focus on Samsung devices and is largely unknown to the Apple world. While not a provider of inaccurate predictions like “LeaksApplePro,” “FrontTron” has no background in the field.

On Friday, Gurman, a well-connected person with solid Apple sources, put the key in the coffin and confirmed it. on Twitter that there will be no events on March 16th. Although he does not specify when the company intends to hold its typical spring event, Gurman notes “AirTags” it will not will be released on the 16th.

Twitter’s seemingly false “reports” were probably polite assumptions based on legitimate reports and historical release dates.

Apple is expected to introduce the new iPad hardware this spring slowly with its annual release cycle. Several reports point to an announcement sometime in March, though that date could be pushed back due to persistent developmental and supply chain delays caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
