Apple is expected to launch two new AirPods this year, including the successors to the regular models and the Pro. Commonly called AirPods 3 and AirPods Pro 2 in reports to differentiate them from current generation models, the new wireless headphones are likely to be sold with existing AirPods and AirPods Pro brands. They’re not products that are updated every year like the iPhone, so it’s likely that Apple won’t use a numbering scheme for future models.
Aside from that, there’s no indication of when the AirPods 3 will finally launch, but we’ve just received more evidence that Apple is working on a new pair of more affordable wireless headphones. In a weird touch, counterfeiters from China released fake AirPods 3 before Apple released the real ones, but the design is believed to be accurate.

AirPods imitations are nothing new. They have been on the market for years and these removals look so good that buyers who receive AirPods and AirPods Pro from unauthorized retailers should be very careful not to buy a fake instead of the original.
With the AirPods 3 that appeared in the online videos, there is no original to compare them to. But the AirPods 3 shown below are very similar to the AirPods Pro that Apple currently sells. A leak a few weeks ago from a reliable source showed us alleged images of the new AirPods 3:
Several rumors claimed that Apple was adopting the Pro design for the next AirPods 3 model. The headphones will feature a smaller stem, just like the pros. The charging case will not be as tall as the original AirPods design, but it will be wider, just like the AirPods Pro case. Unlike professionals, the new AirPods 3 will have no removable tips and will not support active noise cancellation.

First released on TikTok in China, the previous clip shows the new AirPods 3 knock-offs, which look like what we expect from the actual product, assuming the previous AirPods 3 leaks were accurate.
It is unclear who made these fake AirPods 3, where they are available or how much they cost. It is likely that the company that created these forgeries had access to some insider information for the design, or simply relied on leaks to mislead customers.
Fake AirPods 3 coming out of China are not necessarily an indication that the genuine product is coming soon. While the new AirPods are expected this spring, well-known leaker Ming-Chi Kuo recently said that the new AirPods will not go into mass production until the third quarter of 2021. The first-generation AirPods were launched in late 2016, and the second-generation model was launched in mid-March 2019. The AirPods Pro were launched in late October 2019.
