Klein’s arrest is the first known case of one of Trump’s nominated politicians facing criminal charges in connection with the riot. It occurs when some on the right try to sideline Trump’s guilt for the insurrection.

Trump was accused of inciting riots, but the Senate eventually voted 53-47 to acquit him.

The news of Klein’s arrest was first reported for Politico. According to the media, he was arrested in Virginia.

According to a financial disclosure published by ProPublica, Klein was appointed to the State Department on January 22, 2017 as a special assistant. Prior to his appointment, he worked in Trump’s 2016 campaign and reportedly earned $ 15,000.

In the State Department, Klein was a special aide to the State Department’s Western Hemisphere Affairs Office and was a “Schedule C” politician, Politico reported.

Klein’s mother, Cecilia, told Politico in a telephone interview that she discussed the Jan. 6 incident with her son and confirmed that she was in Washington, DC that day.

He told Politico that he left with the impression that his son had not entered the Capitol, but did not remember if he specifically denied it.
