The government of U.S. President Joe Biden on Thursday expressed its intention to modernize the country’s nuclear arsenal to ensure it is safe and effective.

“We will continue to do this to ensure that we can deter other countries from nuclear aggression,” the US Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm, At a press conference at the White House.

To this end, the official considered that there should be a “consensus process” between the Democratic Party and the Republican Party to carry out this modernization.



“We are starting the process within the Department of Energy, we need to find a solution, but it has to be based on an agreement,” he noted.

During the tenure of former President Donald Trump (2017-2021), the Pentagon recommended spending more than 6% of its budget on the so-called Nuclear Triad, consisting of strategic bombers, submarines and intercontinental ballistic missiles, many of which they were already decades old.

And he proposed strengthening and renewing the current arsenal without having to resort to expanding it.

It is expected that the Biden Administration carry out a comprehensive review of the country’s nuclear stance and examine arsenal modernization plans, which are estimated to cost $ 1.7 trillion over 30 years.
