DETROIT – When Green Dot Stables employees entered preparation on Tuesday morning, they found a fence built in the parking lot, which blocked employees from the container, a storage container with the restaurant’s dry ingredients inside. and even an employee’s car.
The fence was the last climb of a month and a long round trip over the small piece of land.
“It’s crazy,” said Jacques Driscoll, owner of Green Dot Stables. “I woke up with the image of one of our managers and he said,‘ Are you kidding me? “
Driscoll said he couldn’t believe what he saw. The car park the restaurant had used for 50 years had been closed.
“They came in the middle of the night, they put up that fence and I thought we were still trying to talk to them about some kind of deal where that wouldn’t happen, but they told me to stop talking to them,” Driscoll said.
What they are talking about is the Detroit International Bridge Company, owned by the Moroun family, the same family that owns the Ambassador Bridge and is known for their controversial business practices.
Announcements
The Detroit International Bridge Company claims it has a deed for the area and wants to charge Green Dot Stables $ 1,000 a month to continue using and maintaining it.
“We’ve been paving it, maintaining it, cleaning up the garbage that blows on the fence line,” Driscoll said. “For years, we’ve cleaned up their plague.”
The restaurant filed a court order in August to prevent the installation of a fence. It was not granted until Wednesday and a judge said the fence should be lowered.
“I am just happy to be here. I’m a little baffled by the whole topic. It’s nonsense, “Driscoll said.” They said they wanted to be reasonable, but I don’t think putting up a fence and blocking all of our stuff is a reasonable gesture. “
But it could be the start of a costly legal struggle.
A Green Dot Stables manager said the fence would go down one way or another. They hoped the Detroit International Bridge Company would remove it, but it looks like the restaurant staff will remove it themselves.
