This is a regularly updated story with the latest information on the corona virus and its impact on Arizona and beyond, until December 14, 2020.

PHOENIX – On the day of the first vaccinations in the United States, Arizona on Monday reported 11,795 new cases of the corona virus, an additional death and a record number of registered COVID-19 hospitals.

This is the second highest single-day case report for an epidemic in Arizona. The highest report, 12,314 cases, came six days earlier.

According to the Arizona Department of Health Services, the state has documented a total increase of 420,248 COVID-19 infections and 7,358 deaths.

Overall, many COVID-19 readings in Arizona are higher or closer than they have ever been.

The number of confirmed or suspected COVID-19 hospital inpatients in Arizona was 3,677 on Sunday, the third consecutive record-breaking day.

The number of confirmed or suspected COVID-19 patients in ICU beds in Arizona was 829 on Sunday, two less than the previous day, and 141 below the July 13 record of 970.

Statewide, 43% of all inpatient beds and 47% of all ICU beds were filled on Sunday by suspected or confirmed COVID-19 patients, up from last July.

Overall, inpatient beds were 91% filled, with ICU beds.

Arizona’s weekly percentage for a COVID-19 diagnostic test, an indicator of how much the virus is spreading in the community, shows signs of balancing after reaching its highest level in five months.

According to a report on Monday, last week’s positive rate was 18% as compared to the previous week.

Official positive rates are based on when samples are taken, not when they are reported, so labs get stuck in testing and the results are documented by the state as the percentage fluctuates for recent weeks.

The positive rate rose to 21% at the end of June and most recently to 4% in early October.

The seven-day average of the health department’s newly reported cases was 6,309.43 on Sunday, 2,500 higher than the peak wave wave since July, according to The Associated Press.

The seven-day average number of newly reported deaths lags behind the case numbers, but it has more than doubled since the beginning of December. It was 58.14 on Sunday, the highest since August 12th. The weekly death toll rose to 94 on July 30.

Daily reports from the Arizona Department of Health present case, death and test data after obtaining and confirming state statistics, which may be several days or more behind schedule. In the last 24 hours they did not indicate actual activity.

The hospital admission data, which is posted every morning as required under the administrative order, is reported electronically by 100 hospitals across the state throughout the previous evening.

COVID-19, a disease caused by the corona virus novel, causes no harm to some and is debilitating or dangerous to others. People without symptoms – including cough, fever and difficulty breathing – are more likely to spread the virus.

Information about the test sites can be found on the Arizona Department of Health Services website.

Below are Monday’s latest developments on the state, country and worldwide corona virus outbreak:

  • The largest vaccination campaign in U.S. history is underway as health workers at select hospitals roll up their sleeves for footage to protect them from COVID-19 and to start attacking.
  • The president of the Chandler Educational Association has called for additional measures to prevent the spread of the corona virus in the community.
  • Worldwide, as of Monday morning, there were approximately 72.38 million Govt-19 cases and 1.61 million deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University research. The United States estimates that there are approximately 16.26 million cases and 299,000 deaths.
