Arizona residents 55 and older are already eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine in Phoenix

TUCSON, Arizona. – Arizona residents 55 and older will now be able to get the vaccine in some parts of the state.

The Arizona Department of Health Services announced Monday that its two mass vaccination sites at Phoenix Stadiums will begin scheduling appointments for the younger age group. Before, only those 65 and older could make an appointment.

AZDHS says 50,000 new vaccination appointments will be available this week at State Farm and Phoenix Municipal Stadium. Registration for these appointments will open Tuesday at noon.

The state health department also said it will allow local health departments to reduce the eligibility age when 55% of the previous age category has been vaccinated or when they consider there is no longer a demand for a vaccine. Workers who are considered “essential” will be offered an appointment to be vaccinated through their employers.
