PHOENIX – Arizona’s first COVID-19 mass vaccination site will open next month southeast of Mesa, authorities confirmed Friday.
The new site will be operated by Dexcom at 8046 E. Ray Road, next to Loan 202 Santan, near Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport.
It will open on April 5 and replace the state site of Chandler-Gilbert Community College, which will cease to operate on April 3.
Since March 14, people who have received the first doses of the Pfizer vaccine at Chandler’s place have been reserved for their second shots at Mesa.
“We are grateful for the support of Dexcom and other partners to make this inner place a reality and maintain our drive to vaccinate Arizonaers,” ADHS Director Dr. Cara Christ said in a statement. press.
“Patients, staff and volunteers will also be grateful, as we are approaching the time when we operate outdoors and will become dangerous as temperatures rise.”
According to the statement, approximately 30,000 square feet of Dexcom’s 500,000-square-foot regional distribution center will be used for the vaccine through June 30. Dexcom manufactures glucose control products for people with diabetes.
The Mesa site will operate daily from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., and will begin between 3,000 and 4,000 daily appointments. According to the statement, it has the capacity to be a 24/7 site and manage 12,000 shots a day.
Christ first revealed plans for a move from Chandler to Mesa last week, but details of the new operation were not confirmed until Friday.
He also said last week that Glendale State Farm Stadium, the only place in the state 24 hours a day, will stop operations at midnight on April 3 and become an overnight location only in from April 4th. 9 h
Christ said the state was still evaluating inland options in the West Valley to explain daytime vaccines when things heat up.
The Chandler-Gilbert Community College site was first opened as a county-led operation. On March 3, the transition to a state location was made.
