Knife attacks are quite common in China, due to the lack of other weapons to kill in a country where ordinary citizens are not allowed to carry firearms.
In general, such murders are perpetrated blindly, for no personal purpose, by people who perceive themselves as victims of injustice and seek revenge on society.
In February 2019, an individual who suspected his wife of being unfaithful to him stabbed eight people to death and wounded seven in a village in Gansu Province (northwest).
Also in April 2018, another individual killed nine high school students leaving their high school in Shaanxi Province (north), injuring another 12. The 28-year-old said he acted for revenge after being the victim of harassment while studying at the same school.
